Spinach in air fryer cooks in just a few minutes and gets a unique texture – slightly crispy but still tender. This method keeps the preparation mess-free and doesn’t require a pan or stove. Spinach in air fryer also allows better control of moisture and seasoning, resulting in a more intense flavour and pleasant bite compared to steaming or boiling.
Step 1
Prepare the spinach:
Wash and dry the spinach thoroughly using a salad spinner or clean towel. It’s important to remove excess moisture to avoid sogginess.
Step 2
Season the spinach:
Toss the spinach with a small amount of olive oil, salt and pepper. You can also add garlic powder or a pinch of chilli flakes for extra taste.
Step 3
Arrange in airfryer:
Place the spinach in the airfryer basket in an even layer. It’s fine if some leaves overlap, but don’t overcrowd the basket too much.
Step 4
Cook the spinach:
Cook the spinach in the airfryer at 160°C (320°F) for 5-6 minutes. Shake halfway through. The spinach should be lightly crisp and reduced in volume.
For the best spinach in air fryer, use fresh baby spinach leaves. Make sure the spinach is dry before cooking so it crisps up instead of steaming. If you want a chip-like texture, extend the cooking time slightly, but keep a close eye to prevent burning. Spinach in air fryer is perfect for mixing into pasta, topping toast or enjoying as a crunchy snack with a sprinkle of parmesan or nutritional yeast.
